The Day I Doubted My Blog

The Day I Doubted My Blog

A few days ago I found this great blog post by Heather Reese on her blog It’s a Lovely Life called 5 Ways We Can All Stop Those Unhelpful Mom Debates Right Now. I loved it! I can relate in being judged and have felt I may have been judgmental in my own ways during the last 5 years of being a mom. I would like to let others know my opinion, not force my own upon anyone!

I started thinking about how my blog might come across. The title alone is enough to make me nervous now regarding this.  I would hate for anyone to think I am judging just by seeing it. The way God intended is referencing the way I believe He intended humanity to live. Meaning as natural as possible in day-to-day life. That He created women’s bodies to have children. That He created everything we need to live and survive already in natural forms to find here on our planet. And so many other aspects. And that is just the start…my About page plainly states it, but I will state it again: This is an informational blog to be used as a resource for others who are interested or have questions about natural living—basically, it is our experiences and “results” from our choice to live as naturally as possible.

To be clear, we understand that not everyone will agree and that these lifestyle choices are not always a viable option. There is a time and place for intervention, hospitals, doctors, western medicine and all that territory. I believe God gave us all those too. They are not to be disclaimed. They are just not our first choice. If we can find a natural way to do it (i.e. homeopathic, herbal, holistic, etc.) we will try that route first.

Here is a list of many things we have had the privilege to have done or be a part of regarding natural living.

Pregnancies, Birth and Children: prenatal care with a midwife through a birthing center for all pregnancies; midwife assisted home births, all water births; prenatal and pediatric chiropractic; breastfeeding; baby-wearing; cloth diapering (only our youngest); amber teething necklaces.

Health, Supplements and Medical: essential oils; herbal teas; herbal tinctures; natural antibiotics (colloidal silver, coconut oil, honey, etc.); natural healing and immunity support and function from food (lemons, herbs, garlic, apple cider vinegar, cranberries; oat, fennugreek, nuts and so on for lactation); homeopathic first aids; homemade tooth powder; homemade yogurt (pro-biotic digestion).

Other aspects that I have blogged about are resources that I also want to share my experiences with and include: Travel; sleep and co-sleep; getting involved in local activities (libraries and fall festivals); and I will hopefully soon post some blogs about our new adventures in Homeschooling….stay tuned!

My Resources and Networking page also has about six different links to people, places or products that I have had the privilege of interacting with. Check them out, too.

What about you? Had any experiences with judgmental people? Or any experience with natural living? I would love to hear any thoughts!

Fall & Pumpkin Festivals

Fall & Pumpkin Festivals

Fall!

It’s fall in Florida!

October heralds the beginning of my favorite time of year (personally speaking). It is also the time of year when the fall festivals start. All over nation they take place. With so many to choose from, it can be overwhelming! So I narrowed the search and found a great site worth checking out with just about all the festivals going on in the Sarasota/Manatee counties and a bit further.

There is a great site called Manasota Family Fun with a spectacular fall guide for this year!

And we can’t forget our wonderful Hunsader Farm that always has one of the biggest Pumpkin Festivals in the area and has the top rating in Trip Advisor! That’s pretty big!

Some of our best memories as a family has been at fall festivals. Now that Miranda, our oldest, is almost 6 the season is taking a turn for even more fun. She is beginning to understand the difference in the seasons and what that all means with all the holidays coming up. She is excited to make jack-o-lanterns and bake apple pies and, of course, go trick-or-treating.

And again I appreciate our Manatee County Library.  Central branch location has great children’s programs including Thursday Storytime (10am, for 4-5 yr. olds) and Friday Mother Goose on the Loose (10:30am, about 2-5 yr. olds) that feature fall themes through the October and November months (they also have the best Summer time themes during the end of May through July). They even have a S.T.E.A.M. program once a month right after the storytime and Mother Goose for a great head start for Pre-K and Kindergarteners! (S.T.E.A.M. stands for science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics).  Here is a link to their calendar of events page where you can download a pdf of all October events in all of the Manatee county branches.

Upcoming events at the Central Branch location include a Literacy Expo on Monday, October 5th to showcase all the Library has to offer like reading programs, the Emerging Readers Club, S.T.E.A.M. Kits, the Feld Entertainment Fall Reading Club, Early Literacy Kits (called ELK Boxes), and more!  South Florida Museum will even be there with some exciting presentations for the kids as well.  We are really looking forward to being there!

Hope this helps with your fall fun planning!  If I missed any Festivals or events, let me know in the comments below!  I don’t want to leave anyone out!
